WestRock Company Electrical Engineer - Reliability in West Point, Virginia

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The E&I Reliability Engineer position is part of the West Point, VA Mill E&I maintenance organization. The West Point Mill is part of the Paper Solutions division of WestRock Corporation The mill is located on the Pamunkey River between the beautiful and historical cities of Richmond and Williamsburg. The fully integrated mill produces white top liner, liner, and medium on three paper machines.

This position supports electrical and instrumentation (E&I) equipment at the mill. The chosen candidate will use their engineering skills to predict and prevent unplanned failures of E&I equipment. When E&I unplanned events do occur, candidate will lead teams to identify root cause of failures and then develop and implement solutions to fix.

The Central Eastern side of Virginia offers a nice taste of all four seasons and easy access to the Blue Ridge Mountains and Virginia and North Carolina Beaches. In addition to these opportunities, the Nation’s capital is only a few hours away.

The Richmond and Williamsburg areas have a low cost of living and offers all the amenities of a large city. The West Point area offers a small-town living opportunity. The area has experienced steady economic growth and offers a great school system. Higher learning opportunities can be found at universities like VCU, Richmond, William and Mary, Old Dominion, and satellite programs from UVA and Virginia Tech. The area also offers outdoor activities including golf, fishing, boating, and hunting.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT WESTROCK:

In this role, your key opportunities will include:

  • Developing and managing a world-class motor monitoring and testing program.

  • Developing and managing a world-class transformer testing and oil sampling program.

  • Developing and managing a world-class electrical equipment and motor thermographic scanning program.

  • Developing and managing a world-class valve scanning and instrument calibration program.

  • Participating in and leading root-cause failure analysis activities.

  • Developing and implementing reliability-based projects to eliminate root cause failures.

  • Supporting maintenance outage activities to include large motor changes up to 4000hp.

  • Use sophisticated electrical distribution models to support project implementation and to predict electrical hazards for EI techs working on equipment.

  • Using sophisticated computer programs to monitor process, drive, and large turbine-generator variables to diagnose and fix complex problems.

  • Creating bills of material, preventative maintenance plans, and maintenance procedures for equipment.

  • Working with a top-notch electrical and instrumentation team to troubleshoot and fix daily issues that impact production.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering

  • (2) semesters of co-op experience in a heavy industrial facility or equivalent full-time experience

  • Ability to create, promote and work within team concept.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment while meeting tight deadlines on multiple projects

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Intrinsic motivation and inherent curiosity

  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, OSHA and safety LOTO procedures

  • Experience with the following types of equipment and software is a plus:

□ Various types of transmitters

□ Various control valves

□ Programmable logic controllers - Rockwell, Modicon

□ Rockwell Control Logix, Factory Talk Asset Center, and Factory Talk View

□ Panel View touchscreens

□ Ethernet IP, ModBus IP, and DH+ communication protocols

□ Honeywell and Valmet DCS systems.

□ GE Toolbox software for accessing turbine-generator Mark 6e, EX2100E, and DC drive systems.

□ Creating routes in Maintelligence software

□ AutoCAD

□ EasyPower

□ Medium (2400V) and low voltage (600V) motor starters for AC synchronous and induction motors.

□ Rockwell 700 and 750 series AC drives

□ GE Innovation / DC2000 DC drives
