The Division of MOW has several vacancies for Maintenance Supervisor I ( Signals ) and are recruiting employees who are currently permanent Signal Maintainers and have been serving in this title for at least one year or more to fill the vacancy. The individual selected will be appointed as provisional and is required to take the next civil service Exam for Maintenance Supervisor ( Signals ) I.

Compensation: Entrance rate for the title is $94,087 per annum.

Job Description:

This position encompasses supervisory work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, repair and alteration of the Transit Authority's signal systems and related equipment. All personnel perform related work.

Under general supervision, performs tasks such as the following:

  • Supervises staff engaged in the maintenance and repair of interlocking machines, centralized traffic control machines, switch machines, automatic train stops, color light signals, microprocessor signal control systems and related power and control systems.

  • Conducts prescribed tests and inspections of the signal system.

  • Performs inspection work and research on new equipment.

    Maintains records and prepares reports relating to signal interruptions.

    REQUIREMENTS TO BE PROMOTED

    Probationary Period: At the time of promotion, you must have completed your probationary period in the eligible title as indicated in the above “Eligibility to Take Examination” section, and you must be permanently employed in that title at the time of promotion. Additionally, you must have served permanently in the eligible title for at least one year. Time served prior to a break in service of more than one year will not be credited.

    Driver License Requirement:

    A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York with no restrictions which would preclude the performance of Maintenance Supervisor (Signals) work. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

    Selection Method:

    Will be based on an acceptable and approved work history assessment and must have full work status.
