St Cloud School District 742 Assistant Mechanic in St. Cloud, Minnesota

POSITION: Assistant Mechanic TYPE OF POSITION: Hourly Hours may vary based on program needs REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor SUPERVISION: None QUALIFICATIONS: Required High School Diploma Good Driving History with ability to obtain Class B MN CDL with School Bus and Passenger Endorsements with 3 months Preferred 1-3 years general mechanical knowledge Class B MN CDL with School Bus and Passenger Endorsements Bilingual POSITION SUMMARY: The assistant mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs of the district's school bus, auto and truck fleet. This includes oil changes and monthly mechanical and safety checks of all transportation vehicles. Works with and takes directives from the head shop mechanic, and according to work load and priorities. Works with all shop staff to accomplish mechanical and safety repairs to all district vehicles and maintain a safe work environment. The Assistant mechanic may also be required to drive school bus routes as needed. SALARY: $21.23/hr (starting wage for new hires) APPLICATION PROCESS: Online application, ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Performs Class A and B preventative maintenance inspections by checking all fluid levels and electrical equipment, changing tires, lubricating, making minor adjustments and road testing to ensure the bus is in safe operating conditions Assists mechanics in the performance of all types of major mechanical work Cleans and does minor repair to buses and other District vehicles inside and out Drives district truck or van to pick-up parts or for other assignments Maintains shop safety; cleans shop area by scrubbing floors, putting away tools/parts and cleaning benches Drives bus as directed by the Supervisor of Transportation or Transportation Coordinator Other duties as assigned PHYSICAL FACTORS: Frequent: walking, standing, sitting, hearing, talking, seeing, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds All Employees of Saint Cloud School District 742 are responsible to support District goals, to work collaboratively and respectfully with diverse populations of staff, students and parents and to model and promote a welcoming working and learning environment.
