Pacific Publishing Company Press Assistant in Seattle, Washington

Job Summary

The Web Press Assistant act as part of a 2-3 member press crew printing newspapers for our community, schools, and foreign language clients. This is an early morning position with hours of Mon-Thur starting 5AM to finish (+/- noon) and Fridays starting at 1-2AM to finish (+/- 10AM)

*Duties and Responsibilities *

  • Follow verbal instructions from press operator.
  • Assist in loading paper rolls onto press.
  • Assist in pulling and hanging of print plates.
  • Verify date and accuracy of page numbers in all publications.
  • During a print run, offload printed product on to pallet or cart and strap when indicated.
  • Assist with clean up after each press run.
  • Assist with press maintenance tasks and cleaning.
  • Actively remove waste materials for recycling.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • High mechanical aptitude desired.
  • Detail oriented, committed, and willing to learn.
  • Must wear proper safety wear in pressroom including hearing and eye protection.
  • Make sure all palleting is neat and bundling and counts are correct.
  • Keep quality at maximum and waste at minimum.
  • Ability to work with other members of a crew.
  • Must have ability to take written/and or verbal direction.

Working Conditions

Pressroom -- high noise, moving machinery. Area is subject to varying temperatures. Concrete floors.

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs & ladders, reach, kneel & stoop, and be able to lift 50lbs. Must have high visual acuity with excellent color perception with or without corrective lenses.

Work Schedule

Typically, 30-40 hours per week. Due to the nature of this position, hours will vary in order to accomplish the required tasks and may require coming in early, staying late, or (rarely) working weekends. It is critical that the person in this position be reliable/have reliable transportation.
