Our Clean Energy Team seeks a seasoned Mechanical Engineer to support the design, test, and manufacturing of industry-leading solar energy power converter products, energy storage, and management solutions. The ideal candidate will have product development experience including system and PCB level electronics packaging engineering, prototyping design and testing, part specification/design for high volume manufacturing processes, product assembly with contract manufacturers, supplier quality evaluation, and product lifecycle management.
This position is based at the Generac New England Technology Center in Bedford, MA,part of the Boston-Cambridge Innovation Cluster which is ranked #2 in the U.S. for science and technology impact by World I.P. You will be 20 minutes to downtown Boston and Cambridge, 40 minutes to beautiful North Shore beaches, and less than 2 hours to world class skiing and hiking in the mountains of VT, NH, and ME.
Responsibilities:
· Provide mechanical engineering expertise for a fast-growing product line of solar energy management & storage solutions
· Provide flexible, responsive engineering support for a dynamic global supply chain
· Create and manage product designs, documentation, and lifecycles
· Respond quickly to supplier engineering, manufacturing questions, and change requests
· Build, test, and evaluate prototypes and first articles
Minimal Qualifications:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 7 years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Excellent familiarity with electronics design and manufacturing
Experience with Adobe Illustrator and graphic design
Experience supporting NRTL certification testing (e.g., UL, Intertek, TUV, etc.)
Experience with new product introductions and technical transfer to new high volume production suppliers
Experience with formal product documentation practices using Arena or Windchill PLM
Able to travel up to 20% periodically, both domestic and internationally, as needed
Required Skills/Experience:
This role requires a versatile and flexible individual as the job tasks may vary frequently depending upon organizational demand and resources. The successful candidate must work well with others in the engineering, manufacturing, and sales organizations. Must be able to manage shifting priorities in a dynamic and collaborative work environment.
Ability to individually contribute to and lead the mechanical design in an interdisciplinary product development effort – project scope, schedules, budget, design, coordination, testing, and launch
Exhibits deep familiarity and experience with design for volume manufacturing - practices and specific processes (e.g., castings, injection molding, extrusions)
Leverages experience with domestic and global sourcing of electromechanical products for quality, scale, and cost reduction
Able to create and modify complex 3D models and complete 2D drawing sets in SolidWorks or Creo Parametric
Able to perform and apply tolerance stack up analysis to component designs as required
Has experience managing engineering changes and working in a production support environment
Has experience evaluating corrective and preventative actions to address quality issues
Has experience working directly with part/product suppliers on schedule, design for manufacturing, and quality
Is proven self-starter who takes initiative and adapts to changes to bring projects to completion with a positive attitude
Has a process orientation and follows a clear method, trains others, and embraces continuous improvement
Is a team player who works closely with others to achieve shared goals
Is a passionate advocate for and knowledgeable about clean energy technology with a high-energy approach to the advancement of this market space.

Physical demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift loads up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based and light laboratory work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
