The Technician is responsible for performing jobs involving the service and repair of equipment, working both independently and on a team. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate and perform repairs include medium and heavy-duty trucks, tractors, trailers, diesel engines, marine gears, and electric power generators. Extensive on-the-job training, classroom instruction, and e-learning must be successfully completed to remain in the technician training program. The Technician will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner. The Technician will advance in classification as attitude, skill level, and job performance allows.

  • Plan and perform minor and major repairs using correct tools and procedures.
  • Order and return parts for assigned jobs in timely manner
  • Perform the following tasks on engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install, disassemble/reassemble, perform minor adjustments
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance service according to factory guidelines
  • Demonstrate proper use of service information systems
  • Work as helper in field service with experienced technician as required
  • Adhere to all applicable and required safety standards and procedures
  • Work independently and as a team in the field as required
  • Overnight, weekend, holiday, and out of town work sometimes required

Education

Docorate (required)

Experience

A minimum of five (5) years' work experience involving mechanical repairs or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education is required. Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills are required. Experience using diagnostic software. Must be able to write a proper service report on repairs performed. (required)
