Position Purpose This position reports to the Assistant Facilities Services Manager and is responsible for performing semi-skilled and sub journey maintenance and repairs of campus buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment. The incumbent works independently in routine maintenance and repair assignments or under the technical direction of a journey level position. Nature and Scope Essential Functions Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair of campus facilities in trades, including painting, carpentry, masonry, concrete, and sheetrock installation independently or under the technical direction of a journey level position. Under technical direction journey-level positions, perform work associated with assigned small-scale remodel projects. Install and work from scaffolding, stages, planks, ladders, jacks, and other platforms. Maintain and comply with safety standards for the maintenance and construction trades. Complete general maintenance work orders, such as painting, install shelving, white boards, chalk boards, bulletin boards, campus art, etc. Prepare and clean surfaces by use of sandpaper, burners, scrapers, sanding machines, dusters, power washers, power sanders, and paint removers. Drive service vehicles, as required; load and unload materials and supplies. Operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment, such as forklifts, tractor, man lifts, etc. as required. Attend meetings and training courses as assigned. Assist other Facilities departments and related staff when requested. Work extended or overtime hours for storm clean up and/or other emergency conditions. Perform other related duties as required. Additional Duties Knowledge Skills and Abilities Skill and ability to perform sub journey construction, maintenance, inspection, installation, and repair in painting, carpentry, masonry, concrete and sheetrock installation. Skill and ability to use the tools, equipment, and instruments associated with assigned tasks. Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of building trades. Skill and ability to safely operate and maintain tools and equipment commonly used for construction and grounds tasks. Ability to receive hands on training with associated tools, equipment, and safety precautions. Skill and ability to follow and enforce safety standards and practices to ensure compliance with federal and state safety rules and laws. Ability to respond to urgent and/or emergency situations.
