Position Description
This position announcement is for Building Maintenance Lead Mechanic, a full-time Civil Service position in Parks & Recreation and serves as the Building Maintenance Lead Mechanic with duties and responsibilities in various locations.
This position requires the incumbent to work in all types of weather, being capable of some strenuous labor involving bending, lifting over 50 pounds, climbing, working in small confined areas.
Metro's Parks and Recreation Department has something for everyone through its variety of strategically placed facilities and programs. Parks offers cultural arts and fitness classes, dog parks and nature programs and 16,000 acres of open space, including 6 municipal golf courses, 121 parks and 19 greenways. Typical Duties
HVAC
Installs and/or makes alterations as directed to HVAC, environmental, and mechanical systems as well as doors, lighting, lock systems, windows, etc.
Assists as directed in the repair and maintenance of various environmental, and mechanical systems, such as but not limited to circulation pumps, motors, heat exchangers and compressors, within approved guidelines at all Park & Recreation facilities.
Maintains current knowledge of codes, regulations, etc.
May perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, environmental, and mechanical systems, including but not limited to replacing and/or cleaning filters, cleaning and/or repairing vents and ducts, testing and/or replacing thermostats.
Operates Aerial Lifts.
Centennial Sports Plex
Zamboni – maintains and repairs machines including blade changes coordinates with Fleet and Rink Director for planned and unplanned maintenance when needed.
Ice Edger –maintains/rotates blades. Replaces batteries.
General Facility Maintenance
Building Automation Systems (BAS) – responsible for tracking, responding, and reporting on a daily basis.
Electrical – changes bulbs and ballast in 400+ light fixtures.
Safety Inspections- Works with State and Metro inspectors to maintain facilities. Performs monthly internal safety and cleanliness inspections.
Picks up and delivers supplies when needed.
Repairs and maintains tools and equipment.
Maintains boilers and Nautica.
Operates computer to communicates with staff and other Park’s personnel.
Maintains and repairs equipment at multiple Parks facilities.
Maintains simple work records and logs.
Other various duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of skilled maintenance and/or repair work on electrical, environmental, or mechanical building systems
ORTen (10) years facility maintenance experience in Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and successful completion of safety training.
LICENSES REQUIRED
Valid Driver License
Universal Certification required by EPA

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of electrical and electronics to install and repair systems safely and efficiently
HVAC Certificate from an accredited Technical Training Institute or accredited school
Experience maintaining electrical vehicles and/or vehicles with cutting blades
