The Opportunity:

The HR Specialist is a part of the Human Resources function, working closely with both the local HR Managers and Business Leaders to execute HR related initiatives. The HR Specialist will be responsible for the administration of HR policies, procedures, and processes such as workforce actions, employee relations and discrete projects. The HR Specialist will also respond to questions raised by managers and team members and triage to the respective central teams. This role will require process, systems and planning skill sets, a strong customer service mindset and consultative capabilities.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Partner with the HR manager to plan, coordinate, and implement people programs and processes, such as workforce initiatives, tuition reimbursement, acquisitions and divestitures, and discrete projects - ensuring consistent support and program application

  • Work with centers of excellence to support the delivery of central services.

  • Participate on project teams for key initiatives, defining efficient and effective processes, tools, training, and communications, and change management

  • Maintain compliance with state and federal employment laws and company policies.

  • Works with HR manager and third-party benefits company regarding leaves of absence.

  • Maintain positive employee relations and drives a culture of inclusion, positivity, and high engagement.

  • Investigate employee relations issues partnering with the HR Manager and site leaders to resolve.

  • Ensure a sustainable, effective onboarding process while playing an active role and influencing site leadership involvement, creativity and engagement.

  • Produce reporting and analytics to provide HR functional leaders with insight into the effectiveness of the programs and areas of improvement

  • Leverage tools/techniques to propose process improvements to ensure best in class support and operations

  • Ensure standard operating procedures (SOP’s) are being followed and non-compliant items are escalated as appropriate

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline - Preferred

  • 3+ years of professional HR experience in a fast-paced environment - Required

  • Project planning and process skills

  • Strong customer service mindset with good communication skills

  • Critical thinking and analytical skills, with an attention to detail.

  • Collaborative and team player.

  • Demonstrates good judgement and maintains confidentiality.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple priorities.

  • Advanced computer skills to include the use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); other HR systems experience.

Compensation:

  • Summary Pay Range: $55,000 - $65,000 (Salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications)

  • Position is Salaried Non-Exempt and Eligible for Overtime

  • Bonus/Commission Eligible: No

  • Long Term Incentive Eligible: No

  • Other compensation offered: Merit Increases
