Mechanical Engineer

Salary:

 $80,000 - $90,000

Basic Function:

To coordinate the project management team responsible for architectural and/or engineering aspects of small and large renovation and construction projects for Kent State University buildings and facilities, to include programming, construction documentation, project administration, and supervision of consultants and contractors. Reports to Executive Director, Facilities, Planning and Design or Assistant Director, Architecture and Engineering.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Provide engineering and project management oversight for studies, design and planning for campus improvement and expansion projects.

Coordinate and/or oversees the preparation of contract documents for construction projects and prepares bid documents.

Prepare bid documents for construction projects relevant to educational experience and/or certifications.

Inspect new construction for compliance with contract documents; analyzes existing construction conditions.

Conduct research for new construction techniques, products, and designs.

Provide consultation to university departments and personnel (including all regional campuses) as it relates to planning, design, project estimating, construction and facility management.

Assist in the selection of contractors and consultants to meet university construction needs; supervises contractors and consultants for assigned projects; reviews contractors and consultants work; approves change orders, schedules, shop drawings and pay applications.

Represent the university at planning, design and construction meetings.

Coordinate the training of maintenance staff related to construction projects.

Provide functional guidance of administrative/professional employees and / or direct supervision of support staff on an on-going basis. Provide ongoing facilitation of consecutive unrelated projects simultaneously.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or related field; minimum one year progressively responsible experience in facilities management, design and construction administration.

 

License/Certification:

State of Ohio "Engineering Intern" certification, having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is required.

Knowledge Of:

Local, state, and federal building codes; budgeting; personal computer applications Mechanical and plumbing systems, design and construction techniques

Skill In:

Written and interpersonal communication

Ability To:

Lead diverse teams and build consensus Manage people and projects -- with emphasis on team-building

Preferred Qualifications -- if applicable:

AutoCAD experience is preferred.
