Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to perform a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, and shipping a variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment and commodities in support of the operating location. Assembles items into groups based on information shown on the receiving vouchers and segregates materials according to such factors as condition, type of transaction, or property class and routes along appropriate processing lines. Holds material for inspection according to established procedures. Routes items not requiring inspection to proper storage location or the designated organization. Operates a pallet truck, dollies or other mechanized equipment to move, stack, unstack, load, and unload a variety of materials and equipment. Follows all applicable warehouse safety regulations and procedures. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Qualifications: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying must be demonstrated through: your ability to do the work of a Materials Handler receiving general instruction from supervision; Knowledge of overall warehousing plans and accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and techniques to select proper storage locations and assemble items for shipment in accordance with shipping requests; ability to process and independently complete shipping and receiving documents ensuring correctness of quantities, identification criteria, and labeling; skill in building pallet loads of items according to the type of conveyance on which the items are to be shipped and their destination; skill in operating mechanized equipment, e.g., utility vehicles, forklifts, mobile stock selectors, and electromechanical automated equipment controlled by computer terminals to receive and transmit storage, inventory and requisition data. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Education is not substitutable for experience requirements. Additional Information Moving expenses will not be paid. A one year probationary period may be required. Telework availability will be based upon the mission requirements and supervisory determination. This position is covered by a bargaining unit. Pay for first time hires to the Federal Government will typically be set at step 1 salary range for their respective grade level.
