Two different types of positions, many spots available:

Plant Protection Aids (at GS-3, step 1) and Plant Protection Technicians (at GS-4, step 1). Starts at \$17.00 per hour depending on experience. The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is looking to fill several vacant spots for Plant Protection Aids.

Be progressively trained in the use of various devices, tools and related equipment utilized in pale cyst nematode regulatory operations. Assist in the collection of soil samples. Keep routine and basic records of daily activities, observations, field conditions or contacts made for purposes of exchanging information. Basic familiarity of biological or agricultural work is desirable but not required. Knowledge of equipment experience (ATV/UTV, truck/trailer operations) also desirable; however, all applicants will be considered.

This work will consist of walking in agricultural fields collecting soil samples in a variety of weather conditions away from shelter and conveniences. Employees can expect to walk a few miles a day in rough, loose, uneven and hilly terrain. The ability to stand for long periods of time and occasionally lift 30-50 lbs. are required.

Keeps routine and basic records of daily activities. May assist in addressing pest risks in quarantine areas as instructed by technicians or officers to prevent the spread of cysts from infested to clean areas.

This position is part to full time with some flexibility to fit a school schedule and starts at up to \$17.00 per hour with any work experience over 6 months. No work experience? We still need you. If workload allows, you are eligible in this position to work up to 180 days per year. The standard schedule is 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM M-F. Peak seasons of summer and fall will offer overtime and Saturday work.

Plant Protection Aids (at GS-3, step 1)

Qualify at GS-3, step 1 (\$17.00 per hour) with a minimum of 6 months general work experience.

Plant Protection Technicians (at GS-4, step 1)

Qualify at GS-4 (\$17.34 per hour) with a minimum of 6 months general work experience, PLUS 6 months specialized (related) experience.

Requirements include U.S. Citizenship and a valid State drivers license. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service. USDA works with direct deposit to issue paychecks. Applicants must have access to a bank account prior to starting work. Apply year-round. The hiring process can take approximately 6 weeks.
