Job Description:

The Digital Worlds Institute (DW) in the College of the Arts seeks a student assistant to join the department as marketing and communications student assistant to aid in the creation and production of materials for the Institute's student and alumni newsletters, website, and social media accounts. The ideal candidate would be able to develop innovative ways to build audiences, increase engagement, and create informative and entertaining content.

This position requires an onsite presence in the collaborative DW workspace in the Norman Gym Building during regular business hours, exact schedule to be determined (up to 20 hours weekly).

Responsibilities:

  • Writing in-depth stories, blog posts, and long-form feature pieces on students, faculty, and alumni.

  • Communicating with students, faculty and alumni for story requests and interviews.

  • Proposing social media content ideas for social media platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, and more.

  • Capturing photos and videos and assisting with Institute events and activities.

  • Developing graphics and editing video content for social media and other platforms.

  • Planning and creating a variety of content in-line with the Institute’s goals.

  • Other duties as assigned by department.

Expected Salary:

$15-18 per hour depending on experience and work samples provided

Minimum Requirements:

  • This employment is offered to all students eligible to work on campus and will be employed by student Other Personnel Services (OPS). Students must have a minimum 2.0-grade point average to be considered for this position. Students are permitted to work up to 20 hours a week on a part-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will bring to the position:

  • Federal Work Study award preferred [valid Award Summary Page confirming Federal Work Study]

  • Experience working with Microsoft TEAMS and Google Drive to collaborate with department staff and faculty

  • Enrolled as a UF junior, senior, or graduate student in communications, journalism, public relations, or another related program.

  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to produce in-depth articles and stories, and consistently concise communications

  • Experience utilizing email marketing software, such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or Wix

  • Capacity to think critically, as well as an eye for detail and correctness

  • Experience managing social media content

  • Basic video editing skills include trimming clips, adjusting brightness/contrast, adding transitions, inserting text overlays, and incorporating sound effects/music.

  • Experience utilizing basic graphic and video editing software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Express, or Canva
