Manager Pulp Mill Asst
Opportunity summary: As a Manager Pulp Mill Assistant, you will be responsible for coordinating the safe and efficient operations of production in the mill facility. As a Manager Pulp Mill Assistant, you will coach shift supervisors, and team members to meet safety, quality, production, and all other key performance indicators of the mill facility. You will communicate performance expectations to team members, monitor production demands, supervise machine productivity and quality, and manage personnel daily.

Promote safety and environmental culture and mindset while meeting and exceeding customer’s needs with minimal incidents
Support the development of the annual strategic production plan for the annual cycle
Develop the tactical mill production plans supporting the annual strategy by proactively capturing pertinent customer and market data, identifying cost savings opportunities, and ensuring consistent pulp ad fiber supply to achieve production targets
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the pulp mill ensuring that the mill meets company and customer goals and targets for safety, quality, production, on-time delivery, and cost
Enforce and model plant safety regulations and housekeeping practices and encourage employees to become safety-conscious
Manage environmental compliance, safety, quality, production and production costs for paper machine and stock prep areas
Supervise employees to accomplish safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency goals
Develop and manage the pulp mill budget and manage spending to the budget
Build effective relationships with all internal departments to produce a superior product and drive operational efficiency
Control load factors and workflow to ensure maximum use of available capacity and effective use of labor, tools, and equipment
Maintain department shop floor metrics, visual controls, and continuous improvement methods on the manufacturing floor
Coordinate, plan, and schedule mill maintenance repairs, outages, and lockouts in a timely manner to ensure customer and manufacturing needs are met
Manage, supervise and coach manufacturing employees through mentoring, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions
Communicate effectively with all functional areas of the mill to ensure all production needs are successfully achieved
Responsible for conducting business with integrity and respect, being accountable, and actively pursuing excellence to help achieve WestRock’s Path To One goals
What you need to succeed:
High School diploma or G.E.D., Bachelor’s degree preferred
Must have minimum of 10 years of pulp or paper mill experience, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of pulp mill machinery, including digesters, washers, post-washing equipment, and MC/Thick Stock Pump
Working knowledge of chip mill operation, including chip mill, stackers, front end loaders, dozers, and Heede crane.
Proven track record of interpersonal and collaboration skills to achieve goals and objectives
Leadership and coaching skills leveraged to motivate others to achieve performance excellence, develop knowledge and capability, and foster a culture of teaming
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability quickly learn programs and software used in pulp mill facility
