General Responsibilities:

The Quality Control Roadway Technician will be responsible for performing asphalt testing and quality control requirements. Routine duties are performed with minimal supervision; standard practices or procedures allow employee to proceed alone at routine work. There is occasional check of work while in progress; work is reviewed upon completion. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks assigned. Normal work hours are day or night shift eight (8) to fourteen (14) hours per day, Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be required depending on the contract. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed. Working Conditions:

  • Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (i.e. rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.). The noise level in the work environment of this job is very loud.

Required Skills

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to read and comprehend, in English, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred but not required. At least two (2) years of prior related experience required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current North Carolina Driver’s License is preferred
