Leads managers, supervisors, and workers in efforts to reduce safety-related incidents and to reduce associated human and fiscal costs. Maintains safety operational controls that hold managers and supervisors responsible and accountable for safety of our workers. Provides support and technical knowledge to operations leadership in executing their responsibilities under the Smithfield Injury Prevention System. Core Responsibilities Ensure Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS) requirements are established, implemented, and maintained in accordance with Smithfield SIPS. Manage the location's safety activities including regulatory compliance. Implements continuous improvement programs for safety measurement. Ensure non-compliance with regulatory and other requirements is investigated and corrected. Maintain Web SIPS / Safety SharePoint requirements to include inputting records in a timely manner and reviewing records to verify required records are present and current. Maintain other safety records as required by Company or regulatory agencies at the Federal, State, and Local levels. Coordinate with the SIPS Core Team Leader to schedule periodic management reviews. Take a lead role in safety program development, performance reporting, and SIPS development coordination. Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert in occupational safety and health. Monitor and interpret safety legal requirements applicable to the region or operating division, as well as other requirements to which the location subscribes such as local or state government regulatory requirements and corporate initiatives. Serve as the primary point of contact for the Corporate Safety Department on safety questions and issues that may arise. Prepare and submit reports required by regulatory agencies and corporate safety. Maintain summary data and information on measurable key safety performance indicators. Coordinates with Corporate Safety and Purchasing to review and approve new chemicals, equipment, supplies and materials. These items would include, but are not limited to, emergency response equipment and supplies, fire protection and prevention equipment, fall protection equipment, electrical safety tools and materials, and personal protective equipment and clothing. Conduct and document safety review for all capital expenditures prior to the capital request being submitted through the e-CAR system. Oversee contractor safety approval process for location. Monitor contractor performance in safety and health. Ensure corrective action is executed in a timely manner when non-conformances are identified. - Implement, monitor, and update SIPS worker awareness, regulatory, and job-specific safety training as directed by the SIPS Core Team Leader or HPD Corporate Safety.
