What you will do

The Co-Op will report directly to the CFO & VP, Finance & Business Control.

In this position, you would assist the Finance team in streamlining the internal financial processes, mapping and structuring the existing processes while challenging the current situation, identifying and leading the continuous improvement efforts within the Finance team.

This opportunity would engage you on working and learning from different functions, enhancing continuous improvement, business, and financial management skills.

You would be responsible for:

  • Streamlining internal business control processes, mapping and documenting existing processes and activities while identifying opportunities for improvement.

  • Leading automation and digitalization projects, transforming existing procedures into more efficient and effective ways of working.

  • Working with other functional areas which interface with our team to identify key-enablers to improve the Business Control service and performance level.

  • Building automated dashboards and visual management tools which allows the team on quickly visualizing financial results and reports.

  • Supporting the Business Control team on daily critical activities as needed.

Critical Competencies:

  • Able to build Value Stream and Process maps.

  • Understanding of Continuous Improvement concepts.

  • Customer Focus: Identify opportunities to increase value for our internal and external customers.

  • Advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps).

  • Teamwork: Work cooperatively with other people across organizations to achieve common objectives.

  • Instils trust - follows through on commitments.

  • Communication: Proficiency in the English language is required.

Professional Objectives:

  • Writing Assignments: Brief written summaries of the learning experiences and project updates may be required.

  • Performance Feedback: Throughout the entire experience, the manager will provide verbal and written feedback on work performance.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Applicant must have completed a bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Analytics or similar at an accredited school prior to the start of the Co-Op.

  • Applicant must be actively enrolled in a formal Masters degree program at an accredited school in any of the areas mentioned above.

  • Co-ops may work up to 40 hours per week and are not actively enrolled in academic courses during their co-op period. They will be receiving an academic credit or notation for the co-op.

  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.

Expected Commitment:

This Co-Op may work up to 40 hours per week during the Fall 2024 semester, with the specific working schedule to be agreed upon with the hiring manager.

The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study. This Co-op position is located at Volvo Penta in Chesapeake, Virginia.

“Hampton Roads” is and diverse mix of coastal, urban, rural, and historic communities that includes the cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Hampton, and Newport News. Our test center marina is located on the water in Suffolk. We have beautiful beaches and state parks, and family-friendly attractions with Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and North Carolina’s Outer Banks within easy driving distance.
