Powell Industries, Inc. Production Worker - 6 Month Temporary Contract in Calgary, Alberta

Based out of the Calgary - Nextron location, the Production Worker will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Production department. The Production Worker will be responsible for assisting the manufacturing process for various products and materials through electrical part installation.

Please note that this is a 6 month temporary position

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Electrical part installation such as: controllers, displays, relays, etc.

  • Metal work (drilling and tapping, cutouts, etc.) on enclosures and back panels.

  • Wiring: Anchoring, tie-wrapping, routing, push buttons, flagging, & wire tagging.

  • Crimping and Wire/Cable Stripping.

  • Final testing of products.

  • Promotes a safety culture as well as attends all safety meetings.

  • Ensure quality by following standard work/process instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.

  • Ensure that work areas remain clean and well organized.

  • Other duties as required.

Core Competencies:

  • Knowledge of hand, electric, air tools and some vibrating tools.

  • Conscientious, thorough, accurate and reliable when performing and completing job tasks.

  • Ability to read prints including: specification sheets, wiring diagrams, schematics, three-line drawings, wiring lists, and part drawings.

  • Able to work effectively within the team and around other departments and their activities.

  • Ability to learn and adhere to all manufacturing policies and practices to ensure adherence to ISO requirements.

  • Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum education level of a High School Diploma is required.

  • 0-1 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Basic ability performing mathematical calculations.

  • Ability to read a tape measure (this includes conversions from fraction to decimal and conversely from decimal to fractions).

  • Safety training certificates are an asset for the position.

Working Conditions:

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, steel toes boots, hearing protection, safety harness and respirators) when required.

  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, and all-size extension ladders).

  • Working in a semi-enclosed space occasionally.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.

  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.

  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force frequently up to 20lbs throughout the shift and occasionally 50lbs.

  • Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer and power tools (some vibrating) for long periods of time with frequent repetition.

  • Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
