Job Description:

The Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering (SSIE) in the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University (The State University of New York at Binghamton) invites applications for two (2) faculty members, at the Associate or Full Professor level, starting in Spring or Fall 2024. The positions involve establishing theoretical and applied research in emerging areas in industrial and systems engineering as well as teaching at all levels, from undergraduate courses to advanced graduate courses. We are interested in faculty candidates with expertise in 1) Flexible, Additive, and Hybrid Electronic Systems and 2) Systems Engineering in Electronics and Semiconductor Manufacturing. However, qualified applicants in other emerging areas of industrial and systems engineering, such as autonomous systems, advanced/smart manufacturing, biomanufacturing, cyber-physical systems, and machine learning and artificial intelligence, healthcare systems engineering, may be considered.

The Associate/Full Professor - Flexible, Additive and Hybrid Electronic Systems position will bring additional focus on electronics for edge computing and internet-of-things (IOT). Binghamton has developed a significant portfolio of technology, infrastructure and reputation in this area that enable both wearable health technologies, and industrial monitoring and sensing. The successful applicant will contribute to the advancement of materials, design, processes, tooling, additive fabrication and reliability testing in this critical area. Other emerging topics in the broad area of advanced manufacturing will also be considered.

The Associate/Full Professor - Systems Engineering in Electronics and Semiconductor Manufacturing position will help bridge the gap between semiconductor and more traditional electronics manufacturing by leveraging new opportunities. These efforts should include a true systems engineering perspective of the structure, design options, and applications of the chiplet concept and 3D stacking, as well as the actual manufacturing technologies and processes involved, and of course human factors and work force development. Manufacturing: Binghamton University has internationally recognized programs in the area of Electronics Manufacturing, commonly referred to as Electronics Packaging. Other emerging topics in the broad area of advanced manufacturing will also be considered.

The Watson College is dedicated to the goal of building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment. Potential applicants who share this goal, and especially underrepresented minorities, women and persons with disabilities, are strongly encouraged to apply.
