Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Quality Assurance Manager, located at the Corporate Office in Bay City, Michigan.

 

Job Summary:

The Quality Assurance Manager for Food and Feed is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of all food and feed products manufactured and distributed by the company. This role involves developing and implementing quality assurance programs, managing quality control processes, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements including AIB, SQF and GMP+. The Quality Assurance Manager will work closely with operations and regulatory affairs teams to maintain high standards of product quality and safety.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement quality assurance policies and procedures for food and feed production.
  • Oversee SQF compliant systems, recall & product traceability programs, supplier evaluations and certification, label review and food defense program.
  • Manage AIB & GMP+ for pulp quality systems to maintain animal feed compliance. This includes annual HACCP plan and system reviews for quality and pest management.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of manufacturing facilities to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain quality control measures, including testing protocols, to monitor product quality throughout the production process.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure the quality and safety of raw materials used in food and feed production.
  • Investigate customer complaints and non-conformances to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide training and guidance to production staff on quality assurance practices and procedures including GMP's, food defense, AIB, pulp quality and food/feed safety.
  • Collaborate with regulatory affairs team to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and standards, including FDA, USDA, and other relevant agencies.
  • Manage documentation and record-keeping related to quality assurance activities, including product specifications, test results, and compliance documentation.
  • Quality support of Marketing and Sales.  This includes customer quality documentation requests, food safety letters, quality questionnaires, specification reviews, responding to quality complaints, COA system management and administering the kosher approval program.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to food and feed safety.  Ensure MSC remains in compliance with all regulations.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and optimize quality processes.

     

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial or Food Technology, Chemistry, or other technical degree highly desired.  Advanced certifications are a plus.

Minimum five (5) but preferably ten (10) years of professional experience in a food manufacturing environment with direct involvement in quality system supervision.

Strong self-management skills with the discipline to initiate work, meet schedules and the detail discipline to manage the food and feed safety/quality systems.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement strategic improvements.

Strong knowledge of food safety regulatory requirements, quality control and safety standards.
