GAF Industrial Maintenance Mechanic in Baltimore, Maryland

Team or Function Overview

We are searching for an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic for the Baltimore plant. The successful candidate must have at least 1 year of maintenance experience, including welding and cutting, pneumatics and mechanical drive components relating to conveyor systems as used in high speed production line environment. Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills in the above areas are also required. Strong electrical background a plus.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Basic understanding of plant electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems conveyors, belts and splices, bearings, and mechanical drives.

  • Welding and cutting as required using oxygen acetylene torches and electric arc welding equipment.

  • Performs maintenance using hand tools and power tools such as: impact wrenches, power saws, drills, sledge hammers and pry bars.

  • Replacing electric motors, switches and wires as required.

  • Troubleshooting, repair and operation of machine equipment.

  • Ability to perform carpentry and plumbing work.

  • Will re-knife cutting cylinders as required.

  • Operation of lift truck to unload trucks and do maintenance work.

  • Operation of crane and safe rigging practices.

  • Performs preventative maintenance work and documents work done.

  • Troubleshooting of equipment to restore service.

  • Responsible for the housekeeping of tools and work area.

  • Performs other duties as directed.

Physical requirements:

  • Capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.

  • Capable of climbing ladders from 10 to 50 feet in height in order to access equipment up to 50 feet high and work off ladders to perform work.

  • Capable of standing up and performing work for up to seven hours per day.

  • Capable of kneeling, stooping and crawling around machinery to perform work up to seven hours per day.

  • Capable of climbing approx. 60 steps up to eight times per day.

  • Capable of transporting a ladder a distance of 500 feet.

  • Capable of opening door, climbing over pipes, climbing over ledges and maneuvering around equipment.

  • Can walk ½ mile up to four times or more per day

  • Can communicate verbally with supervisor and other personnel

  • Capable of re-knifing cutting cylinders, which entails bending over, up to 7 hours per day

Under This Roof, We Require

Must be available to cover on call hour, work five - seven days a week, including weekends and Holidays.

1 year experience working in a Maintenance role

High School Diploma/GED preferred, not required

Maintenance experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment preferred, not required Strong Commitment to safety

Proficient with basic mathematical skills

Ability to wear and use required safety equipment
