Amazon Risk Manager II, Regulatory Inteligence, Safety & Compliance in Arlington, Virginia

When customers shop in Amazon’s store, they trust that they can find an amazing selection of products that are safe. We have robust policies and processes in place to make sure the products in our store meet applicable compliance and safety requirements. We are also always listening to feedback from customers and others in order to identify potential issues that might have been missed by our proactive controls so we can take immediate action, including reporting potentially unsafe products to regulatory bodies.

Our Regulatory Intelligence, Safety and Compliance (RISC) team is seeking a high performing Risk Manager to support our food and product safety regulatory reporting program in North America.

This is a highly complex and critical role that involves managing regulatory compliance, developing and maintaining rule-based systems, providing subject matter expertise, collaborating with various stakeholders, designing risk management frameworks, and supporting product and food safety investigations.

The ideal candidate will be an analytical leader who demonstrates high judgment and experience with regulatory frameworks and enforcement programs. The individual will have strong communication skills and ability to support cross-functional stakeholder groups across all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate takes initiative and drives efficiencies across their portfolio, demonstrates ownership and independence in developing and delivering goals, and remains agile in managing change.

Key job responsibilities

-Ensure accurate and timely reporting of safety incidents to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

-Establish and manage a Rule Writing team to develop and maintain keyword-based rules for identifying potential safety incidents.

-Work with the False Negative (FN) Audit team to identify and resolve missed safety detections by continuously updating rule rationales.

-Address false positives by working with global stakeholders to account for grammatical variations, colloquialisms, and socio/economic language variations.

-Onboard new datasets, remove FPs from ML models, and ensure accuracy and precision of data.

-Engage with outside counsel and litigation lawyers, providing information on Clearinghouse Report submissions and customer feedback to assist in litigation proceedings.

-Build and track fraud detection mechanisms to remove fraudulent feedback from the investigation workflow, preventing regrettable suppression.

To succeed in this role, you will need extensive experience in regulatory compliance, rule-based systems development, risk management, and fraud detection. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

About the team

The RISC team charter is to protect Amazon customers from products that are illegal, illegally marketed, unsafe, or otherwise prohibited by Amazon policies while enabling our Selling Partners to offer their broadest selection of safe and compliant products.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk/loss prevention, or equivalent experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • Experience handling confidential information

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of program requirements definition and data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements experience

  • Experience with regulatory filings and reports or equivalent

  • Demonstrated ability to define, plan, deliver and measure programs with a growing scope or complexity

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $59,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $142,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
