Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a 9-month tenure-track open rank professor position. The position includes responsibilities in research, teaching, and service. All candidates with research programs that promote health and include nutritional sciences are encouraged to apply. The department particularly encourages applicants who have a specific focus in the areas of 1) nutritional epidemiology, 2) nutrition and the microbiome, or 3) community nutrition. The successful candidate will contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio focusing on nutritional epidemiology, nutrition and the microbiome, or community nutrition; pursuing and obtaining extramural research funding; mentoring students and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; and actively contributing to the department, college, university, and the profession.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in Nutrition Science or a closely related field by start date

  • 1+ years of postdoctoral experience

  • Demonstrated evidence of scholarly productivity such as peer reviewed publications, grant writing, and/or presentations at major conferences

Associate Professor Qualifications: For consideration at the associate professor rank, applicants must meet, in addition to the above requirements for this position, the department, college, and university standards for appointment at the associate professor rank with tenure, including excellence in scholarship that establishes significant contributions to the field or profession with potential for national distinction, and a high likelihood of sustained contributions to the field or profession and to the university.

Professor Qualifications: For consideration at the professor rank, applicants must meet, in addition to the above requirements for this position, the department, college, and university standards for appointment at the professor rank with tenure, including national distinction in scholarship, as evident by wide recognition and outstanding contributions to the field or profession and the ability to sustain contributions to the field or profession and to the university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in nutritional sciences focusing on nutritional epidemiology, nutrition and the microbiome, or community nutrition

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a part of collaborative teams

  • Demonstrated evidence of student-centered teaching

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate students effectively

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Iowa State University is renowned nationally and internationally as a leader in the field, with a strong focus on research, teaching, and extension. The department offers comprehensive undergraduate programs in Food Science, Nutritional Science, Dietetics, Diet and Exercise, and Nursing. It also provides graduate programs in Food Science and Technology, Dietetics, Diet and Exercise and engages with the interdepartmental graduate program in Nutritional Sciences as well as additional interdepartmental graduate programs in Microbiology, Neuroscience, Genetics and Genomics, Toxicology and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology.
